It depends on how you define SME. Some SME is really "tiny" and have
less than 10 computers. Some SME is as big as enterprise with 200
computers and more. Do you consider SME in general are non public
listed companies?
If a company has 5 computers and no plan to expand in the next 3
years, I will think Microsoft based solution is better for them. Cost
is cheaper than Linux and easier for customer to maintain themselves.
Beyond that, it is always better to use Open Source software. When
small size company grow, it is usually stop at certain "comfort" line
(say 10 computers), then they realize they need to switch to Open
Source.
Talking about Open Source, I believe many of us are agreeable to
promote and push Open Source into every business. We encourage usage.
We feel bad if it is not used. We feel proud if everything is "Open
Source First". Do you feel that way?
But what do you feel if The Prominent North America Linux Company is
slowing down the Open Source adoption by refusing to make their price
affordable? What would you do?
