ODF is American National Standard
Flagusa
I always fly up the flag of a country that takes positive steps towards ODF
adoption. I flew Italy's flag when they formally adopted ODF ISO26300:2006
as Italy's National Standard for document format. Now it's time to fly the
flag of the U.S. of A!
Celebrating Open Malaysia's first birthday yesterday (Thursday) included
learning that in the U.S., a day before, ANSI (American National Standards
Institute) closed the ballot and approved ODF as American National
Standard!
Microsoft in the US voted to approve it, too, and released a statement, but
that's another story. I just want to come back to Malaysia and our stalled
effort to adopt ODF as a Malaysian Standard since July 2006. With Italy and
USA officially adopting ODF as their national standards and the rising tide
of governments around the world having already deployed ODF or announced
policies to move to ODF (as has been blogged here before), perhaps we can
now resume the work to make it happen. Will there be parties still wanting
to object to ODF becoming a Malaysian Standard now?
Hasan.
