Ahem, Mark was not *given* that amount of money. He actually /worked/ 
for it. Suggest you re-read the wikipedia article on mark, or if thats

Yes, mark is using his own pocket money to fund ubuntu. its true - ask 
him. he wants to thank what made him money at thawte - debian, and 
python, largely

now that you've given advice to people who want to start something, and 
since everyone's doling out advice, i suggest reading paul graham's 
excellent articles on what it takes to be a startup (he's mr. viaweb, 
mr. y combinator, and so on)
