As a reader (man in the street) : Heh? OD What? Ecma? Eczema is it?
As a IT guy : So, I'll let them fight. IBM vs MS. see who bigger loh
As an IT guy with a stake : OOXML must win / ODF is the way to go

In short, once again, it's only the people w/ interest will ever care
about these sort of things. The man in the street will never know (or
care) what's going on with his Tax money. (all he/she knows is that the
govt is lifting it from his wallet/purse).

IT is not like politics where (nearly) every man on the street will have
a piece to say.

Sad.. It's their tax money at work.
