Would anybody have more information on these patents? They seem like
software patents which are currently not allowed in .my.

Mimos rewards seven researchers

KUALA LUMPUR: Mimos Bhd has rewarded a first batch of researchers for
patent disclosures under its recently introduced Intellectual Property
Reward Scheme. 

The 11 researchers received a total of RM14,000 for the seven patent
disclosures. These relate to four patent applications filed in three
applied-research areas — advanced informatics, cyberspace security, and
knowledge technology. 

A patent disclosure is when the inventor discloses information about a
patent application that would enable a knowledgeable person to reproduce
or use the invention. 

If the patent is successfully commercialised, the scheme offers a cash
reward as high as RM500,000. 

Mimos' long term target is for every employee to have at least one
patent disclosure accepted by the Patents Committee every year, in line
with the recognition of intellectual property (IP) generation as one of
its key performance indicators. 

It is aiming for 40 IP disclosures by the end of this year, 100 more IP
disclosures next year, and 150 in 2008. 

Mimos researchers who have filed five patents or more will get to wear a
special gold badge. 

Two researchers, Ng Kang Siong and Kow Weng Onn, have disclosed more
than enough patents to earn the badge, and are now waiting for the
patent applications to be filed.
